Received “AA” MSCI ESG Rating

Renesas Receives “AA” MSCI ESG Rating

For the first time, Renesas received an “AA” ESG rating from Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI). AA is the second highest rating given by MSCI ESG Research, a global provider of in-depth research, ratings and analysis of the environmental, social and governance (ESG) related business practices (announced on January 27, 2023).

MSCI ESG Research assesses and rates global public and a few private companies on a scale of AAA (leader) to CCC (laggard), according to exposure to industry-specific ESG risks and the ability to manage those risks relative to peers. Since the official launch of the Sustainability Promotion Office in 2020, Renesas has made significant progress on the MSCI ESG Rating with a score improving from B (2020) to BBB (2021) to AA (2022).

Triple ESG Index Inclusion by FTSE Russell

For three consecutive years, Renesas has been included in three indices, “FTSE4Good Index Series,” “FTSE Blossom Japan Index,” and “FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index” for our outstanding Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices (Originally announced on September 16, 2022).

The three indices are provided by FTSE Russell, a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group, and used by a wide variety of market participants to create and assess responsible investment funds and other products. The FTSE Blossom Japan Index and FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index are adopted as benchmarks of ESG passive funds by the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF), one of the world’s largest pension funds.

Renesas remains committed to contributing to a more sustainable future while tackling the world’s most pressing challenges including climate change.

Received the highest “Gold” rating for PRIDE Index 2023 for two consecutive years

Renesas received the highest "Gold" rating by the Pride Index 2023 for two consecutive years. The index, established by work with Pride in Japan, evaluates workplace initiatives for LGBTQ+ and other sexual minorities within companies and organizations (announced on November 21, 2023).

We continue to expand our LGBTQ+ initiatives by a variety of programs and events. We reinforced a non-discriminatory benefits policy and provided educational programs and harassment prevention for all employees globally. Most recently, we celebrated the Diversity Awareness Month in October and hosted multiple events that focused on unconscious biases and gender stereotypes in the workplace as well as physical and mental well-being. Renesas also founded the “Renesas Pride” employee resources group that offers support and networking opportunities for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies.

Selected as a member of the MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index

In June 2021, Renesas became a member of the MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index, established by MCSI, an index made up of diverse companies, for the first time. The MSCI Japan Empowering Women Index was created to support institutional investors looking for exposure of companies promoting gender diversity and is made up of the top 700 Japanese companies by market capitalization.

Selected as a member of the SNAM Sustainability Index

Renesas became a member of the SNAM Sustainability Index, established by Sompo Japan Nipponkoa Asset Management Co., Ltd. (SNAM). The SNAM Sustainability Index is managed with a long-term perspective for pension funds and institutional investors who invest broadly in companies with strong ESG ratings. Every year, approximately 300 stocks achieve an excellent ESG rating.

Environment

Recognized as a CDP 2022 Supplier Engagement Leader

Renesas was awarded the highest rating in the CDP 2022 Supplier Engagement Rating (SER), which evaluates how effectively companies are working with their suppliers to measure and reduce climate risks. This recognition was given to the top 8% of companies with the highest scores in four categories (Governance, Targets, Scope 3 Emissions and Value Chain Engagement) in the survey.

Renesas will continue to work with suppliers around the world to reduce CO2 emissions and environmental impact throughout the entire supply chain.

Won 2021 NEDO Conservation Technology Development Award

Renesas recently won the 2021 NEDO Conservation Technology Development Award by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) in Japan. The award recognizes Renesas’ contributions to developing energy-efficient low-power automotive LSI technology using model-based design techniques. The award is given to companies that have developed ground-breaking R&D technology for clean energy adoption and energy conservation between 2021 and 2022.

Received the “Best Award” at the Kanto Region Electricity Use Rationalization Committee Chairman's Award

Renesas’ Takasaki Factory, located in Gunma Prefecture, received the highest award in the 2018 Kanto Region Electricity Use Rationalization Committee Chairman's Award. This award is given to factories, workplaces and individuals who have made remarkable achievements including the effective use of electricity, promotion of saving energy, and load ratio improvements.

Renesas received the 2022 “Outstanding Asia-Pacific Semiconductor Company Award” by the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) (announced on December 12, 2022).

GSA represents the semiconductor industry across the globe, with over 300 corporate members worldwide. Annual awards are given to members who have demonstrated excellence through their success, vision, strategy, and future opportunities in the industry. The award is presented to an APAC-headquartered semiconductor company, chosen by industry peers on GSA’s APAC Leadership Council.

Renesas was awarded the “2022 Porter Prize” hosted by Hitotsubashi University Business School. The Porter Prize was established to recognize outstanding Japanese companies that implement unique and superior strategies. Renesas was chosen for its enhancement of profitability through “providing product solutions” and “diversifying its business portfolio.”

Renesas was ranked in the “Inclusive Company Ranking” by Forbes JAPAN, the Japanese edition of the world-famous business magazine Forbes (scope: all 1,839 companies listed in the Prime Market of Tokyo Stock Exchange; ranked 8th in the “Stakeholder Capitalism” segment).

Renesas was named “Issuer of the Year” at the DEALWATCH AWARDS 2021. Sponsored by Refinitiv Japan, a subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), the award acknowledges issuers that made excellent debt and equity offerings in the capital markets. Renesas was recognized for its significant capital increase and secondary offering of shares aimed for acquisitory purposes, and first-ever major issuance of senior notes denominated in US dollars including green bonds. The honor of “Issuer of the Year” was awarded to Renesas for strengthening and expanding its investor base through intrepid financial strategy.

Renesas was recognized as an Overdrive Award recipient at GM’s 30th Annual Supplier of the Year Awards. The Overdrive Award is presented to suppliers that showcased outstanding achievements in sustainable automotive supply chain management, innovation, building supplier-customer relationships, total enterprise cost, product excellence and safety. The winners of the 2021 Supplier of the Year Award and Overdrive Award were selected based on performance criteria in Product Purchasing, Global Purchasing, Manufacturing Services, Customer Care, After-sales and Logistics.

At the 10th Technology Management and Innovation Awards sponsored by the Japan Techno-Economics Society (JATES), Renesas received the highest honor, Prime Minister's Award, for the practical application and adaptability of its ultra-low power Silicon On Thin Buried Oxide (SOTB™) process technology. The objective of this award is to contribute to Japan’s economic development, social transformation, improvement of global competitiveness and more by introducing outstanding innovations originating in Japan. Renesas was highly regarded for its semiconductor products that can be broadly adopted in energy harvesting and battery-powered applications that contribute to energy conservation.

Seiichi Ogi, manager of 2nd Wafer Manufacturing Section, Production and Technology Unit of Renesas Semiconductor Manufacturing (Takasaki Factory) was recently awarded the Medal of Honors with Yellow Ribbon from the Cabinet Office of Japan. Mr. Ogi was recognized for significantly improving the accuracy of high-frequency measurement test equipment for manufacturing semiconductor products.

Koji Iwamoto (Kawajiri Factory), In-House Equipment Improvement and Repair Promotion Section of our Process Production Technology Division received the Medal with Yellow Ribbon for his excellence as an electrical equipment maintenance engineer. This medal is one of Japan's awards for those who have contributed to society, public welfare, culture, etc., and the Medal with Yellow Ribbon is presented to those who are diligent in work such as agriculture, commerce, and manufacturing, and have skills and practices that are exemplary to others.

The "Battery Management IC and Impedance Measurement Method (JP 2012-245554)" patent filed by Hidekazu Nagato and Hiromasa Takahashi (both from our Musashi Office), received the “Governor of Tokyo Award” at the Kanto Region Invention Awards Ceremony in November 2019. This award is presented for excellent inventions that are extremely easy to implement and are recognized as contributing to the improvement of local industries.
The patents awarded this time support the Dynamic Battery Power Technology (DBPT) function according to the battery level and properties.

Renesas' next-generation Si-IGBTs for xEV inverters received the "Excellence Award" in the semiconductor device category of the Semiconductor of the Year 2023 awards hosted by the Electronic Device Industry News of Sangyo Times Co., Ltd. Renesas’ RZ/V2M microprocessor featuring Renesas’ exclusive vision-optimized artificial intelligence (AI) accelerator, the DRP-AI (Dynamically Reconfigurable Processor), was selected as a winner of the 2020 Aspencore’s World Electronic Achievement Awards in the Processor/DSP/FPGA category. The RZ/V2M was recognized for delivering a combination of real-time AI inference and industry-leading power efficiency in embedded devices.

At the annual Elektra Awards in London, Renesas’ RZ/A2M MCU featuring Dynamically Reconfigurable Processors (DRP) received Semiconductor Product of the Year in the Digital category. RZ/A2M is a low-power MCU that can process images in real time, enabling embedded devices to incorporate image recognition and AI functions at low power consumption, accelerating the intelligence of endpoint devices.
