First of all, Renesas would like to thank the many customers who use the RH850/F1x series.
Since the launch of the RH850/F1x series with the birth of Renesas Electronics, the company has shipped more than 1.6 billion units to the market and continues to renew the portfolio. Behind this is many evolutions that are close to the market, such as higher performance, larger memory, and diversification of packages.
Recent years, there has been an increasing number of cases that legacy product design assets are evolved to respond to the evolution of E/E architecture in the automotive actuator ECU market, which is the main application of the RH850/F1x series.
The key point is to diversify the product lineup, such as "high performance with small memory and the same footprint" and "diversification of memory options".
To meet these market needs, we will expand customer options by adding the RH850/F1KM-S2 series, which covers the space between the RH850/F1K series and the RH850/F1KM-S4 series.
Here, we will introduce two examples of the RH850/F1KM-S2.
#CASE1: Easily supports program size reduction
The user is using RH850/F1KM-S4 with OTA support during the development, a total of 4MB code flash is used, 2MB for application and 2MB for backup. The OTA requirement is removed for production so that only 2MB code flash is needed. In such a case, the RH850/F1KM-S2 enables development with minimal hardware and software changes.
＃CASE2: Easily respond to enhanced security demands
In a project under development on RH850/F1KM-S1, security requirements have been enhanced, and Evita-Mid support is required. Since the 1MB ROM space was exhausted, it was necessary to add security firmware and update the HSM (Hardware Security Module) to support Evita-Mid. In such a case, the RH850/F1KM-S2 enables development with minimal hardware and software changes.
