With the development of HMI (Human Machine Interface) technology, there is a growing demand for polished designs and high operability that add value to products. As a result, there's a growing demand for capacitive touch sensors, which can be incorporated into various materials like wood or transparent acrylic for operational panels, and further enhanced with user-friendly LED guides.

Renesas microcontrollers, including the RX family, come equipped with Capacitive Touch Sensor Units (CTSU). These units detect changes in capacitance when touched. However, they might be influenced by environmental noise, which causes unwanted changes in capacitance. The impact of this noise can vary based on hardware design. With proper design measures, you can mitigate the effects of environmental noise, paving the way for effective product development.

We have now released the "Capacitive Touch Noise Immunity Guide" to assist even those who are introducing capacitive touch sensors to apply appropriate noise countermeasures. This application note details various strategies, both hardware and software-based, to enhance the noise resistance of systems using capacitive touch sensors, in line with the international standard IEC 61000-4.

For those who previously hesitated to adopt capacitive touch sensors due to uncertainty about noise mitigation, or for those who have already adopted them but wish to improve noise resistance, we encourage you to utilize the "Capacitive Touch Noise Immunity Guide" for achieving high noise resistance.
