Renesas Data and AI Principles

We have established the Renesas Data and AI Principles to ensure that we have the highest level of confidence in our products and services.

Renesas is an embedded semiconductor solution provider driven by its Purpose “To Make Our Lives Easier.” Our mission is to develop a safer, healthier, greener, and smarter world by providing intelligence to our four focus growth segments: Automotive, Industrial, Infrastructure, and IoT.

With these principles and an internal AI task force, we are committed to the responsible development and deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies and relevant data systems (hereinafter, “Data and AI Systems”), and continues to promote the responsible use of Data and AI Systems across Renesas.

 

  1. Realizing our Purpose “To Make Our Lives Easier”
    • Renesas will consider the purpose of Data and AI Systems and their impact on customers and society in advance. We will deliver Data and AI Systems to customers when they are expected to contribute to the realization of our Purpose.
  2. Ensuring Fairness
    • Renesas is committed to developing Data and AI Systems only for legitimate and ethical purposes that do not harm or discriminate against any individuals, groups or communities.
  3. Pursuing Transparency and Accountability
    • Renesas uses data to develop or deploy Data and AI Systems in a fair, ethical, and transparent manner. We take proactive steps to avoid or mitigate any potential biases, errors or harms that may arise from the data quality, data representation, data analysis or data outcomes of the Data and AI systems.
    • Renesas continuously monitors its Data and AI Systems deployed for decisions or any other output that may unfairly disadvantage individuals, groups or communities, taking corrective action when necessary.
  4. Emphasizing Sustainability
    • Renesas uses data to develop or deploy Data and AI Systems in a sustainable and efficient manner and minimizes the environmental and social impacts of data collection, storage, transmission and processing.
  5. Commitment to Data Protection
    • Security Measures
      • Renesas implements robust cyber security and privacy measures to protect sensitive and customer data (including, but not limited to personal identifiable information) from unauthorized or unlawful access, use, disclosure, modification or destruction and to enable data breach detection and response.
    • Appropriate Data Retention
      • Customer data collected by Data and AI Systems will be retained only for as long as is necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, or as required by law or otherwise authorized pursuant to a Customer Contract. Where customer data is no longer needed or authorized for retention, Renesas will delete or anonymize the Customer Data in accordance with regulatory requirements and internal retention policies.
    • Lawfulness
      • Renesas respects the privacy, security, ownership and intellectual property (IP) rights of customer data and Renesas will comply with all applicable laws and regulations as well as contractual obligations and internal policies that are relevant to customer data.
  6. Ongoing Review
    • Renesas will periodically conduct reviews of AI ethics and these principles to assess ongoing adherence and proactively address emerging issues.
