Targeting to Become the World's Leading Power Device Supplier by Expanding Product Lineups and Strengthening Sales Structure in China
TOKYO, Japan, September 28, 2010 — Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, today introduced its new measures to strengthen the company's power device business.
Renesas Electronics' power device business accounts for approximately one-fourth of the Analog & Power Device (A&P) business unit, which is one of the company's three core product segments. Renesas Electronics intends to implement the following measures: (1) Expand the product lineups extending from low-voltage to high-voltage power devices and develop approximately 1,000 new products by March 2013. (2) Increase sales in China by 1.5 times from FY2010 to FY2012 by strengthening the company's sales structure in that country. (3) Double the production capacity from FY2010 to FY2012 on the company's 8-inch wafer lines.
Through these measures, Renesas Electronics expects to increase annual sales of its A&P business in FY2012 by 1.2 times from FY2010 (by 1.6 times from FY2009), and continue to achieve an average annual double-digit growth, aiming to become the leading power device supplier in the world.
(1) Strengthen product lineups extending from low-voltage to high-voltage products
Renesas Electronics will further strengthen its wide range of product lineups that have been realized through the merger between NEC Electronics Corporation and Renesas Technology Corp. as of April 2010, extending from low-voltage to high-voltage products. The company will develop a total of approximately 1,000 new products comprised of low-voltage devices including low-voltage power MOSFETs; basic intelligent power devices (IPDs); and high-voltage devices including high-voltage power MOSFETs; insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs); and triacs by March 2013.
In addition to retaining and further expanding the world's top market share in low-voltage power MOSFETs, the company also is targeting to increase its sales in high-voltage devices by launching new products that leverage the company's advanced process and packaging technologies.
(2) Strengthen sales structure in China
To reinforce the company's sales structure, Renesas Electronics launched new marketing structures by segment in China. By setting up four sales teams for home appliances, automotive, industrial and battery management areas, the A&P business unit will collaborate with the local planning and development division of Renesas Electronics China and develop products specifically for China. Renesas Electronics also will double its marketing force in China starting in FY2010 and intends to offer timely products that best address the Chinese market demand.
Based on these measures, Renesas Electronics expects to increase its sales in China in FY2012 by 1.5 times from FY2010.
(3) Expand production capacity
Renesas Electronics will strengthen both its front-end and back-end line manufacturing structures by doubling its production capacity of the 8-inch wafer lines from FY2010 to FY2012 and by increasing production capacities at its two plants in Malaysia as well as by expanding manufacturing outside Japan through subcontractors in China.
Renesas Electronics aims to achieve a sales growth that exceeds the growth rate of the power device market, and to contribute to the realization of an eco-friendly society through the company's power devices that can provide low power consumption for devices and systems.
