Tokyo, Japan, September 1, 2016—Renesas Electronics Corporation today announced an update on the impact of the earthquake that hit Kumamoto Prefecture and the surrounding areas in Kyushu at 7:46 p.m. on August 31 on Renesas Group (“the Group”) business operation.

Since the epicenter of the earthquake was close to the Kawashiri Factory, the emergency safety control system was activated, suspending the material supply for the semiconductor manufacturing and temporarily halting the operation of the factory. While there was no significant damage to the manufacturing equipment and the jigs, the Group confirmed damages to some of the work-in-progress products that were inside the manufacturing equipment when the earthquake occurred. Following the completion of the assessment of the facility, material supply restarted and production of some of the manufacturing processes resumed this afternoon.

The Group aims to resume production of the other remaining processes step by step to reach full pre-earthquake production capacity (wafer input base) by around September 2.
