UPDATE 3- Impact of the Earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture on Renesas Electronics Operation

Tokyo, Japan, April 17, 2016 — Renesas Electronics Corporation expresses its sincere sympathy and condolences to the victims of the earthquake in Kumamoto Prefecture and the surrounding areas in Kyushu.

Renesas established an emergency task force at the headquarter office immediately after the earthquake and has been continuously working to collect and assess information, while also considering necessary actions and recovery measures.

Following the UPDATE 2 announced on April 16 concerning impact of the main quake that occurred on April 16 at 1:25 a.m. on Renesas Group (“the Group”) business operation, the company today announced its third update as follows:

Status of the Group’s offices/factories

  • Renesas Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Kawashiri Factory (Kumamoto city, Kumamoto)
    • Halted operation immediately after the April 14 earthquake.
    • Confirmed the safety of all employees following the main quake on April 16.
    • Amid continuing intermittent aftershocks, the Group is doing its utmost to assess the status of the manufacturing equipment damage. A damage to part of the manufacturing equipment has been identified and the Group confirmed that this was an additional damage to the equipment from the main quake on April 16. A decision on schedule for the resumption of operation will be made as soon as the Group completes its damage assessment of the whole facility. The Group intends to add details of the impact as soon as definite information is available.
  • The Group’s all other manufacturing sites located in Kumamoto Prefecture and the surrounding areas (Nishiki Factory, Oita Factory and Yamaguchi Factory)
    • All the factories are currently maintaining normal operations, however, their operations can be affected depending on the suppliers’ and/or partner companies’ restoration state.
  • Impact on Renesas’ overall supply chain including the suppliers and partner companies, etc.
    • Further damage has been confirmed at part of the subcontractor companies. To recover the overall supply chain will require simultaneous restoration of the material suppliers and subcontractors. The Group will continue the assessment and will cooperate with its suppliers and partner companies to achieve an early recovery of the supply chain.
