Contemporary building automation lighting systems face several challenges, including high energy consumption, system inflexibility, and complex maintenance requirements. How can we develop a solution that addresses these issues while enhancing functionality and reducing costs?

Renesas offers a cutting-edge intelligent lighting system for building automation application using the RL78/G24 and RL78/G23 MCUs. This system effectively addresses the following challenges:

Enhanced Sensor Integration: Conventional lighting systems often lack intelligent control, leading to unnecessary power consumption. The Renesas controller is equipped with sensor interfaces, allowing for connections to various sensors that enable more intelligent control of the light modules. For example, lights can automatically turn off when no one is present and adjust based on the amount of external light, significantly reducing unnecessary power consumption and enhancing energy savings. Additionally, the controller, allows each light module to be dimmed and colored according to user preferences, optimizing the work environment and improving efficiency.

Centralized Control via DALI-2 Interface: Managing multiple light modules can be cumbersome and lacks flexibility. By incorporating the DALI-2 interface, our system allows for centralized management of multiple light modules, greatly enhancing the flexibility and scalability of the system. This simplifies the customization and management of lighting, making it more adaptable to various needs.

Design Flexibility with Capacitive Touch Key: Traditional control panels often limit material choices and aesthetic design. Our controller features a noise-resistant capacitive touch sensor, allowing for a broad selection of materials (such as stone or wood) to be used for touch key panels. This technology enables the creation of highly aesthetic control panels, expanding the degree of freedom in design and enhancing the overall appeal of the system.

Reduce BOM Cost for Power Control: Achieving efficient lighting control typically requires numerous components, increasing costs and complexity. The light module utilizes the RL78/G24 MCU, which offers enhanced power control functions such as a TMKB inverter timer, high-speed comparator, advanced mode ADC, PGA, and 10-bit DAC. These features allow for efficient lighting control with fewer components. Additionally, the Flexible Application Accelerator (FAA) enables precise control over the current of the DC/DC converter, providing faster feedback and improving power characteristics. This leads to reduced BOM costs and enhanced system reliability.
