As the number of connected devices grows exponentially, the need to process data closer to its source becomes critical, driving demand for sophisticated edge computing solutions. Latency, power consumption, cost, privacy constraints, and data volume necessitate deploying edge infrastructure instead of relying solely on remote cloud servers. Additionally, semiconductor software interoperability challenges, such as proprietary drivers, lack of standardization, and varying operating systems, complicate the integration and increase the number of test combinations.

To face this explosive demand for advanced software-defined capabilities in IoT and Edge, Renesas Electronics Corporation and Linaro have announced a collaboration between the Renesas Ready Partner Program and Linaro's ONELab. This collaboration aims to enhance interoperability testing and accelerate the time to market for IoT innovation, ensuring continuously compliant connected devices as services at scale.

The Renesas Ready Partner Program is designed to support our customers at every stage of their design process, providing a robust ecosystem of well-curated partners with expertise in Renesas products. Our partners offer a broad range of building-block solutions that address critical technologies for next-generation IoT and edge computing design.

Linaro ONELab, on the other hand, is an innovative interoperability testing platform that provides a collaborative environment for Silicon Vendors (SiPs) and Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) to validate hardware and software compatibility with operating systems and cloud services. This initiative aims to provide scalable interoperability for Arm-based IoT and edge devices, addressing a critical need in the industry. Renesas participated as a lead member with RZ MPUs for this new collaboration. The ONELab was commercially launched at Embedded World 2025.

The collaboration between Renesas Ready Partner Program and Linaro ONELab brings together two powerful ecosystems to address the challenges of cloud-native edge computing. By leveraging the strengths of both programs, this collaboration aims to:

  • Enhance Interoperability and Save Time: Ensure seamless compatibility between Renesas products and a wide range of operating systems and cloud services through continuous interoperability testing. Designed to streamline the testing of Arm SystemReady-DT (Devicetree) and PSA Certified certification process, making it effortless for users to verify hardware and software compatibility.
  • Accelerate Innovation and Minimize Risks: Provide developers with pre-validated building blocks and streamlined testing processes, reducing development complexity and speeding up time-to-market. Early identification of issues by addressing compatibility concerns throughout the customer development process, reducing the risk of costly setbacks.
  • Foster Collaboration and Build Trust: Create a collaborative environment where partners can share insights, address common challenges, and drive the development of next-generation IoT and edge computing solutions. Provide evidence that products are cloud-native, edge-ready, and ensure products work seamlessly together.

"This innovative collaborative effort is poised to provide scalable interoperability for Arm-based edge and IoT devices, addressing a critical need in the industry," said Mohammed Dogar, Vice President of Embedded Processing Business Acceleration Division at Renesas, "Renesas is proud to join ONELab as a lead member, leveraging our RZ MPUs to support this critical endeavor. Our collaboration underscores our commitment to advancing technology and ensuring seamless integration across diverse platforms. We believe that this initiative will significantly enhance the development and deployment of edge and IoT devices, driving innovation and efficiency in the industry."

"We are thrilled to have Renesas as a lead partner in the ONELab," said Grant Likely, Chief Technical Officer at Linaro. "Their expertise with RZ MPUs greatly strengthens our collaborative effort. Together, we aim to achieve scalable interoperability for Arm-based edge and IoT devices, meeting a critical industry need. This partnership exemplifies our shared commitment to technological advancement and seamless platform integration. We are confident that ONELab will play a pivotal role in enhancing the development and deployment of edge and IoT devices, driving significant innovation and efficiency."
