Overview
Description
The μPD720202 is a Renesas' third-generation Universal Serial Bus 3.0 host controller that complies with Universal Serial Bus 3.0 Specification, and Intel’s eXtensible Host Controller Interface (xHCI). This device reduces power consumption and offers a small package footprint making it ideal for designers who wish to add the USB 3.0 interface to mobile computing devices such as laptops and notebook computers. The μPD720202 supports up to two USB 3.0 SuperSpeed ports and uses a PCI Express® Gen 2 system interface bus allowing system designers to easily add up to four SuperSpeed ports to systems containing the PCI Express bus interface. When connected to USB 3.0-compliant peripherals, the μPD720202 can transfer information at clock speeds of up to 5Gbps.
The μPD720202 PCIe add-in card reference design uses the µPD720202K8-701 USB 3.0 host controller. The plug-and-play card expands two USB 3.0 ports from a PC’s PCIe interface. No driver is required for a common OS.
