Description

For customers who are using a compiler for Renesas’s products, a paid service is available to support the qualification required by ISO 26262, Road Vehicles Functional Safety, part 8, clause 11 (Confidence in the use of software tools).

The ISO 26262 functional safety standard for electrical and electronic systems of passenger cars requires that software tools used are evaluated to judge associated risks and, if required, qualified, before they are used in the development of a product to which functional safety is relevant. Furthermore, the qualification methods are clearly defined. The tool user (the customer) is expected to evaluate the tool based on the target usage/application, however qualification can be a very intensive job also requiring a specific competence. Third party institutions can be called on to handle the actual qualification. The following procedure is required when requesting qualification from a third-party institution :

  • Request qualification under the specific customer's target conditions of usage
  • Obtain the conditions based on which the qualification is required
  • Confirm the qualification report (including measures to be considered during the usage of the tool to mitigate risks identified)

Our service handles the above procedure for the customer.

Renesas provides a report that can be used as confirmation evidence to address the work product "Software tool qualification report" required by ISO 26262, Part 8.

Please contact your local Renesas Electronics marketing office or distributor for details of this service.
