Overview

Description

Human health, in both developing and developed countries throughout the world, depends on the quality of available drinking water. As a result, water quality testing is necessary during our daily lives. With the Renesas Water Quality Tester, water quality can be checked to detect hazardous substances in areas such as industrial wastewater, aquariums, drinking water, etc.

By dipping the front part of the device into the water and gently stirring to dislodge any bubbles, total dissolved solids (TDS) can be detected immediately. The measured value will display on an LCD monitor and can be saved by pressing the "Hold" button for convenient reading and recording. The temperature (°C/°F) can also be displayed by pressing the "Temp" button. The device includes an auto-off function, which will shut off automatically after five minutes without use.

This reference design features the RL78/G11 MCU, a temperature sensor, TDS test probe, LCD Panel, and power supply.

Features

  • Demo board includes the RL78/G11 MCU
  • Flash ROM size of the RL78/G11 is 16KB and the RAM size is 1.5KB
  • Total dissolved solids (TDS) and electrical conductivity (EC) can be measured
  • An 8-bit serial input/parallel output shift register chip drives the LCD panel display
  • Powered by two 1.5V batteries
