IDT CEO Greg Waters to Present at IEEE 5G Summit on ‘Next Generation of Global Connectivity’

September 26, 2016

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 26, 2016 – Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT) (NASDAQ: IDTI) today announced that it will showcase work it is doing with IBM and 5G Lab Germany to develop 5G systems at Thursday’s IEEE 5G Summit in Dresden, Germany. The companies have been driving advances in 5G networking by combining IDT® low-latency interconnect technology and edge computing expertise with IBM Power8 servers at 5G Lab Germany.

In addition, IDT CEO Greg Waters will give a presentation titled, “A 5G Society: Exploring the Next Generation of Global Connectivity.” The Sept. 29 conference will be held at the International Congress Center Dresden.

IDT will display the edge computing cluster recently developed with IBM using IBM Power8 Servers and IDT’s 50 Gbps RapidIO interconnect and sensor technology. 5G Lab Germany is using the cluster for development of connected vehicle offload with mobile networks, autonomous robots, IoT and remote controls for industrial equipment, as well as video caching and real-time analytics.

In edge computing, the data and services are moved from their traditional centralized location to the edges of the network, speeding up the results by enabling data management and analytics to occur at the data source.

“IBM is driving the evolution of the mobile network with key partners like IDT, whose RapidIO interconnect is already incumbent in 4G mobile networks,” said Calista Redmond, president, OpenPOWER Foundation. “Our Power8 server technologies build on IBM’s supercomputing heritage and will help drive proliferation of latency-sensitive applications close to the end users, enabling new applications for tomorrow’s consumers.”

“5G Lab Germany is working with operators and key systems-level innovators like IDT to transform the emerging tactile Internet, where edge computing can be implemented to bring dramatic improvements in the speed with which machines can communicate with one another,” said Gerhard Fettweis, Vodafone chair professor and chair of 5G Lab Germany. “By working with these industry leaders, we can transform the infrastructure around low-latency mobile edge computing.”
