SAN JOSE, Calif., March 4, 2019 – Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT) (NASDAQ: IDTI) today introduced its new GX7847x 80G linear driver series, in die form, for next generation coherent optical integrated modules.

The coherent market is continuously growing with an estimated 44% CAGR for worldwide ports, with 400G-plus capable hardware being one of the key market growth drivers.  According to the Cignal AI 3Q18 optical application report technology roadmap, the upcoming fifth generation coherent applications are predicted to support 800Gb/s to 1Tb/s plus bandwidth with 80 to 100Gbaud baud-rate.

The IDT® GX7847x series 80G linear drivers are 4-channel integrated single die solutions that cover all optical modulator technologies in the market. The GX78471, GX78472 and GX78474 are optimized to provide the best performance for Lithium Niobate, Indium Phosphide, and Silicon Photonics modulators, respectively. These drivers are designed for 400G ZR, Metro, and Data Center Interconnect (DCI) applications, are compliant with the Optical Interconnect Forum (OIF) standard, and are used in highly integrated optical sub-assembly modules such as the High Bandwidth Coherent Driver Modulator (HB-CDM) and Integrated Coherent Transmitter-Receiver Optical Sub-Assembly (IC-TROSA).  The HB-CDM and IC-TORSA using the GX7847x series have higher bandwidth without any degradations in terms of output voltage swing, linearity, power consumption and die size.

Integrated optical modules based on the GX7847x series will have many advanced features, including:

  • 60GHz bandwidth with frequency response tunability to optimize the E/O response of the optical modules
  • Large output voltage of 2Vppd for driving InP and 4Vppd for Lithium Niobate and Silicon Photonics optical modulators
  • Linearity of less than 1% of THD for 64QAM modulation

IDT has sampled customers with GX7847x series drivers and production shipments are expected to begin before the end of 2019.

“IDT’s new GX7847x driver series is another exciting addition to the expanding portfolio of coherent solutions,” said Dr. Koichi Murata, marketing director, telecom products, for IDT’s optical interconnects division. “Increasing the baud rate of coherent technology is always challenging, but it is the most promising way to increasing the transmission capacity of coherent systems. Our GX7847x series drivers support solving the baud rate technical bottle neck for the next generation, bandwidth-hungry coherent systems and services.”
