SANTA CLARA and SAN JOSE, Calif. December 21, 2010 — Renesas Electronics America Inc. and Redpine Signals, Inc. announced today the addition of Redpine Signals to the list of partner companies supporting the ongoing Renesas RX Design Contest. The design contest, launched in October 2010 and continuing to March 4, 2011, provides an open, creative environment in which engineers of embedded systems can showcase their skills in any type of design using a Renesas Electronics RX microcontroller (MCU). Redpine Signals is providing its Wi-Fi companion cards for the RX62N Renesas Demonstration Kits (RDK) so that contestants may easily include a wireless interface to their designs, enabling a new dimension of creativity to contestants' designs. Redpine's sponsorship adds more than $200,000 of value in prizes and support to the contest.
"We are pleased to have our Alliance Partner, Redpine Signals, participate in the Renesas RX Design Contest," said Rob Dautel, Ecosystems Manager, Consumer & Industrial Business Unit, Renesas Electronics America. "The participation of Redpine brings increased value to the contest and enhances the participant experience."
"Redpine Signals is excited about our sponsorship of the Renesas RX Design Contest," said Venkat Mattela, CEO of Redpine Signals. "An increasingly large number of new embedded designs utilize Wi-Fi connectivity, and Redpine's support will enable participants' ideas to include a variety of connected devices, and to bring their ideas to reality with ease."
As a contest sponsor, Redpine is supplying to qualifying participants a Wi-Fi Companion Kit, which includes the RS-RX62N-2201CC Wi-Fi companion card for the Renesas RX62N RDK, and complete source code for the Wi-Fi demo application and driver, which reside on the MCU. Redpine will give away prizes for the three most innovative designs-prizes include the RS9110-N-11-03 Evaluation Board (valued at US$1495) for first place, the RS9110-N-11-02 Evaluation Board (valued at US$995) for second place, and the RS9110-N-11-22 Evaluation Board (valued at US$195) for third place. The addition of the $200,000+ in Redpine prizes and support pushes the total contest give-aways to $1.2 million, with the total cash and prizes valued at more than $113,000. Winner selections will be announced during a special ceremony at Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley 2011.
