Expanded “Power of Two” Offering adds Free IAR Embedded Workbench License and Support
Santa Clara, Calif., Foster City, Calif., May 13, 2013 – The leading microcontroller (MCU) supplier in the Americas, the leading embedded software solution provider and the world’s leading supplier of development tools for embedded systems are expanding the Power of Two offer with IAR Embedded Workbench for RX and RL78, providing a bundle of high-quality MCUs, software and tools for embedded developers working with the Renesas MCUs.
Renesas Electronics America has selected IAR Systems to join the Power of Two program. Bundling Renesas’ high-quality MCUs with a real-time operating system (RTOS) and middleware components from Micrium provides several benefits for customers who need flexibility, reliability and ease of use to accommodate constantly changing design needs. Adding IAR Systems’ best-in-class development tools enhances the program, offering more portable, scalable and affordable MCU designs for connected and emerging applications within the Smart Society that offer increased intelligence, energy savings, safety and enhanced user experience.
The program offers embedded developers working with any Renesas RX or RL78 devices free production licenses of Micrium’s RTOS µCOS-II or µC/OS-III and middleware (connectivity stacks and storage software), along with one year of maintenance and support. Developers who qualify for the program can now also get a free license of IAR Embedded Workbench for RX or RL78, including one year of technical support and software upgrades as well as up to two hours of web-based training provided by IAR Academy.
“We are excited to strengthen the popular Power of Two program with the powerful development tools from IAR Systems,” said Peter Carbone, Vice President of Marketing, Renesas Electronics America. “For RX and RL78 MCUs, the optimization technology of IAR Embedded Workbench produces a small code footprint and fast performance on the EEMBC CoreMark benchmarks. Developers using IAR Systems’ tools, in combination with Micrium’s RTOS and middleware can select smaller RX or RL78 devices requiring less memory and processing power, while fully leveraging their rich set of peripherals and low-power features.”
“Renesas has raised the bar by providing complete and high-quality software solutions together with selected partners, and the addition of IAR Systems underscores the value of the Power of Two program,” said Stefan Skarin, CEO, IAR Systems. “We are happy to join the program with the assurance that customers can rely on IAR Embedded Workbench to meet their most demanding design requirements.”
“Having been a long time partner with IAR Systems, we at Micrium are delighted with the expansion of this program,” said Jean Labrosse President and CEO of Micrium Inc. “Micrium supports a comprehensive set of ports for the Renesas RL and RX MCU families developed on IAR Systems’ tools. This combined offering provides the embedded design engineer with the best-in-class hardware, software, and now development tools.”
IAR Systems is a Renesas Platinum Partner and Micrium Technology Alliance Partner, making IAR Embedded Workbench a solid choice as the perfect link between the RX and RL78 MCUs and Micrium’s RTOS and middleware. Adding IAR Systems’ tools to the Power of Two program provides a complete platform upon which customers can design and implement products faster and more reliably, while at the same time lower the production costs.
The Power of Two promotion is valid in the Americas only (North America, South America and Central America). The customer project must use a Renesas RX or RL78 MCU product and it must be used in a commercial application. Qualified customers can request any number of single-product licenses by registering each project individually with Renesas.
