RZ/G Software Package

Verified Linux Package

The Linux package packages the basic software required for the industrial field and provides it from Renesas as a software package that has been verified based on the data sheet.

Customers can use stable operating Linux + basic software and start application development immediately.

Traditionally, software provided by semiconductor manufacturers has not been systematically maintained. The software that makes up our Linux package has been verified and provided for maintenance. Significantly reduce customer software development load in embedded system development.

Key Features of the Verified Linux Package:

  • Super long-term support by Civil Infrastructure Platform™ (CIP™)
    • 5 years of backporting of additional functions for latest kernel
    • Over 10 years of security patch support
    • In addition, Renesas is independently carrying out activities to expand the scope of maintenance
  • Support for industry-standard APIs
  • Enhanced standard software components for use with industrial and IoT applications
    • Improved reliability, real-time performance, security, and functional safety as required by industrial segment
  • Support for industry-standard APIs
  • Free and simple click-through licensing
  • Free maintenance

Verified Linux Package Concept

What is the Civil Infrastructure Platform (CIP)?

The Civil Infrastructure Platform is a platform that aims to establish a base layer for building Linux-based embedded systems that satisfy the requirements of modern civil infrastructure. It is driven by The Linux Foundation and global leading infrastructure system manufacturers.

Licensing

A user agreement (free) with Renesas is required for using the RZ/G Linux package.

Trademark

Civil Infrastructure Platform and CIP are trademarks of The Linux Foundation in the United States and other countries.

Linux Package (VLP)

Renesas provides the basic software required for the industrial segment as the verified software package. Renesas also provides the multimedia package for installing H.264/H.265 Video codec and graphics (OpenGL ES) function into the RZ/G BSP (Board Support Package).
Please goto the page from the link that indicates the version of VLP in the table below, download the package and use it.

RZ/G AI Board Support Package

RZ/G Linux HMI Software Development Kit

The RZ/G HMI Software Development Kit (HMI SDK) provides a Linux HMI application development environment for the RZ/G Evaluation Board Kit (EVK). The HMI SDK is a one-package solution that includes necessary software for developing HMI application programs, such as Verified Linux Package (VLP), graphics library, video codec library, and HMI framework/libraries.

Advantages of HMI SDK

  • Easy-to-Use
The HMI SDK provides a quick and easy development environment, lowering the barrier to entry for beginners to Linux to using a Linux MPU.
    • As long as you create a bootable SD card by using an image file in the SDK and put the SDK card on the board, an HMI demo starts on Linux.
    • You can start developing your application program easily since the SDK provides an installer for a toolchain of cross-development. And some application programs that run on HMI SDK Linux are available on our GitHub.
  • Free of Charge
All software in the HMI SDK is available for free.
    • The HMI SDK consists of open-source software and libraries from Renesas, and they are provided for free.
    • As long as you have a supported RZ/G series EVK, you can start developing your HMI application program using the SDK.
  • Ready-to-Use
The HMI SDK provides a GUI framework and libraries that are appropriate for HMI.
    • The HMI SDK currently supports LVGL (Light and Versatile Graphics Library), which is a lightweight, free, open-source embedded graphics library. It does not use the GPU in the application program.
    • In the future, the SDK will support Chromium, which is a free and browser-based framework for application programs with GPU.

Target

The HMI SDK covers the RZ/G2L EVK, but we plan to expand support to other RZ/G series EVKs in the future.

For more details about the HMI SDK, please see:
