Hi, my name's Daryl Chamberlin, I'm the marketing manager for the pico projector product group within Intersil corporation. Today, I want to talk to you a little bit about a laser-based LCoS pico projector. This is the world's smallest optical module LCoS laser-based system. The actual module is 4 cm3. It utilizes direct green lasers, so red, green, and blue are all direct, or semiconductor-based lasers. The reference design actually includes the complete system, including the electronics, which provides the laser driver function, the HDMI video input and all the control functions necessary to do the video imaging for the pico projector. The module utilizes a Syndiant LCoS panel, so it's a SVGA resolution, so 800 x 600 pixels.

This optical module measures four cubic centimeters. It incorporates special speckle reduction technology, which virtually eliminates laser speckle, which is one of the key issues for any laser-based projection system. Some of the key advantages of a laser-based projection system includes power efficiency. Lasers are the most efficient light source available. You also get a much broader color gamut. It is much better than your typical HDTV most consumers are aware of today. In addition, you're going to see a tremendous advantage in size. If you walk over here to this comparison chart, it displays several different technologies for today's pico projectors. On the right side, we have an LED-based DLP system. It is a relatively large module. In the middle we have an LED-based LCoS module, it is slightly bigger. And then on the left side here, we have our direct laser LCoS pico projector engine. This everything that includes the light source, which is the three lasers, the optics and the illumination panel.

So as you can see, this is at least half to one-third of the size of the competing solutions. Both of these competing modules are available in the market today or are in production. So, you can dramatically reduce the size of the module using direct lasers in general.
