Explore High-Speed, USB Hub with USB PD, Authentication, and Multiport PD Charging Solutions in the Renesas Booth #160, USB Community
SANTA CLARA, Calif., August 16, 2016 — Renesas Electronics America Inc., a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, will highlight safe and secure connectivity with next-generation Universal Series Bus (USB) technologies at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco, August 16-18, 2016.
As part of the USB Community, Renesas Electronics America will host a series of technology demonstrations in booth #160, where they will showcase the use of the latest USB technologies. These demonstrations will include USB-Type C™, USB Power Delivery (PD), and USB 3.0, to power and connect smartphone and PC applications, as well as a wide range of devices using direct current (DC) power, including PC peripherals, robots, projectors, cameras, and other battery-powered mobile devices.
Technology Demonstrations
USB PD 3.0 Solution for Hub System through USB Type-C
- An environmentally friendly USB ecosystem is becoming a reality. Renesas will demonstrate faster and more flexible charging capabilities for multiple mobile devices using the new USB Type-C standards.
- The Renesas USB Hub demonstrates USB data and bus power distribution to PC and USB peripherals through USB Type-C cables, eliminating the need for individual power adaptors for PC and USB peripherals.
Authentication Solution For Safety with USB PD Wall Charge
- As charging times for mobile devices get shorter, it becomes increasingly important to ensure this process takes place safely and securely. With its USB PD authentication demonstration, Renesas explores how devices can use the most recent USB protocols to verify the device connections to mitigate the risks associated with using non-compliant or sub-standard USB devices.
- The USB PD power source can verify the origin (e.g., the manufacturer) of the connected device, and if an unknown device is connected, only limited power will be provided. This technology can also protect devices requesting higher power (e.g., PCs) by recognizing approved power sources.
Multiport USB PD Smart Charger Solution
- Advancements in mobile devices and adoption of USB Type-C connectors and USB PD controllers are creating new usage models for USB charging and data communication. Renesas will highlight a flexible and intelligent multi-power USB PD charger solution that provides dynamically allocated powers to different PD devices.
- With a USB PD power source capable of delivering up to 100W per port, the real-time power distribution among different ports in a single multiport USB PD power adapter is an interesting design problem. This demonstration highlights a flexible and intelligent multiport USB PD charger solution dynamically allocating power to different ports depending on how many and what type of PD devices are connected.
Leadership in USB
As part of the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), Renesas plays a driving role in defining standards for and promoting mainstream adoption of one of the most popular technologies for connecting and powering consumer devices. With the introduction of standards like the recently completed USB Type-C connector and USB PD 3.0 specifications, the USB-IF community enhances user experience with greater mobile charging convenience for thinner devices and faster charging capabilities.
